CMH Heli assisted ski touring

Well its as plush as you could imagine. Wake up enjoy a great breakfast, a few espressos and grab your ready made lunch. Heli picks you up at 9 am and drops you in some remote area nowhere near yesterdays adventures. Tour up through forests and alpine bowls, enjoy great April powder, get picked up by a heli and dropped back at the lodge. Snack, hot tube, great meal, sleep in comfort and repeat.  It was an amazing way to get into ski touring, not something a dedicated ski tourer like me would do often but damn was it good. On our last day we got really close to Sir Sandford, the highest mountain in our range, 11555 ft.   And now I am bakc at home and enjoying some good turns while balancing family time. The wife and kids take off for three weeks soon, so I am skiing early and playing with kids most of the day. Except today.. We headed up Video peak, skied the north line, which was decent considering the high temperatures we are experiencing. We then toured up and summitted Ursus Major and skied  the north line off of it. Again creamy and buttery but not deep. and then up and down the corn up south facing Bruins bowl and home. Ahh it felt so nice to stand on a summit or two.

Here are my picks for the NHL Stanley Cup Finals, and the slightly more prestigious, CU Intramural Tournament. I’m feeling very good about my predictions. Go Bruins. Go Wally Do’s.

I took a GoPro camera out to Bygget one night to check in with the rookies and see how they were handling the nightlife her in Åre, Sweden.  Unfortunately this video had to be taken down due to its being somewhat inappropriate.  Note that this video represents roughly 4% of the footage captured that night, [...]

Sean Pettit Wins Red Bull Cold Rush 2010!

The bar was set for this year's Red Bull Cold Rush at Retallack Lodge when Sean Pettit on day one nonchalantly rolled up to a 60-footer, in the middle of a venue most of the rest of the field was picking through, and without hesitation launched and stomped clean the cliff. On days two and three, the 17-year-old kept his momentum by throwing buttery 720s in the backcountry slopestyle portion and throwing an impressively stomped 360 off a 50 footer in the natural terrain portion of the event. Pettit's performance put him cleanly into first place.

April 12, 2010--Despite unprecedented spring snow storms, including 22 inches of snow on jump day, The Canyons Resort's park crew shoveled, cut and shaped more than 45,000 cubic yards of snow to create the largest snow terrain park feature ever built in Utah.  Why you ask?  So Grete Eliassen could achieve a monumental personal goal and truly change the game in women's skiing.  This past Thursday, Eliassen clicked into her skis, reached speeds of approximately 60 miles an hour, hit the custom 30-foot tall hip, and soared more than 31 feet in the air to set an unofficial new world record for women.

Closing Day: Aspen Highlands

Each year it feels like closing day at Aspen Highlands comes too soon. It’s a harsh reminder that the ski season is winding down, however it’s also a great reason to get out and celebrate all those great days that you’ve had! With that in mind, the Freeskier crew made the drive from [...]

Had the pleasure of using one a couple of times last week. This thing is a gamechanger. It’s killing me that I don’t have one right now. I’m waiting for the 3G model. Can’t wait to start working on some projects that revolve around this hot little number.

…since I last blogged. It’s been hectic lately, with school winding down, Taylor Swift concerts to attend, playoff hockey on TV, and our landlord coming to the house to shoot some photos (resulting in lots of cleaning, of course)… And I still don’t even really have time to post anything right now, but I wanted to [...]

The skiing community lost a true mountain man last week. Tragically Jack Hannah died in an avalanche on Mount Currie in Pemberton, the same mountain that nearly took my life over 12 years ago. Here’s a few clips of Jack doing what he loved…
