High Cascade Snowboard Camp is a summer camp at Mt. Hood that advertises itself like this. Are we skiers really so bad that you can actually make your camp more popular by advertising our absence? Apparently yes. Corey Vanular already put it bluntly on his blog http://coreyvanular.blogspot.com "Well, let me just say, FUCK THIS CAMP!!what pieces of shit............ I normally like snowboarders, but when they constintly pull shit like this it makes me fucking pissed. YO mother Fuckers you wouldnt even exist without skiing!!!!!!" I went to Camp of Champions in the summer 2008 and I don't think anyone was upset because we were sharing the park with snowboarders. I know many skiers, including myself, who get most of their new ideas from snowboarding and that's why I think it's only cool to ride together. High Cascade website www.highcascade.com says: "It’s not that we don’t like skiers, but snowboard culture is unique. Our parks are 100% built with snowboarder's wants and needs in mind." Is it that 'snowboard culture is unique' and you don't want skiers to contaminate it? Don't you ever get influenced by a skiing trick? That statement reminds me of religious fundamentalists unwilling to adapt to the modern world. Skiing is here, get over it. And how different is an ideal snowboarding park from an ideal skiing park? I don't see much difference. Also Burton recently came up with this T-shirt: I know that should be regarded as a joke (hopefully). But by expressing it like that they don't say 'we don't like skiers because...' They just say we don't like you. And that's not very smart.
The Park is off to a real nice start and keep in mind its only the end of December. Here are some pics of this past week. Showing most of the features and a Video including Herbies Rap… LJ was also back shredding his home mountain Smuggs, so we got to take some runs with him and snapped a few pictures!
It's fall, everyone's back in school and summer camp seems like a lifetime ago. So it's time to break the dreary zombie school like mind state and get your stoke up for skiing and summer camp. It has been a weird winter this year at Silver Star Mountain. A slow start in November seen the park grow at a snails pace. December and January brought some snow, enough to get the ball rolling in the park with most of the jibs and jumps being constructed. Then we all clung to winter as February brought spring-like weather and chocolate colored snow, but like most season's at Silver Star winter came in March with a vengence, snowing, day after day, week after week. The perfect formula the park crew was looking for in order to construct the best Slopestyle lane, for the 3rd annual Showdown Throwdown Hoedown, @ The Star. I really don't know how to describe this event in words, so I'll let the pictures do the talking. We have a total of 4 Parks at Whistler Blackcomb and in those Parks we now have a staggering 64 Jibs and 56 jumps plus the Superpipe and Snowcross Course which adds another heap of terrain to the pile. The good news is that we are not done yet and already have designs for at least 6 new jibs for next week, several more jumps, and three more experimental features.
