When Matt and I were sitting around this winter, talking about doing the Shreddership, and what exactly it would entail, I don't think either of us knew how much exposure, and how much positive feedback we'd receive from it. The Shreddership was featured in major ski media, passed around Facebook and Twitter, and even inspired a spin-off competition for those who weren't so academically inclined. We knew we wanted a panel of prominent ski-industry representatives to be involved in the judging, so we reached out to a few people to see if they'd be interested in helping us out. Every single one of them got back to us immediately, and were more than excited to be involved. Here are our five judges that will decide the Shreddership:Greg WrightFreeskier MagazineDerek TaylorPowder MagazineDoug BishopNewschoolersJohn SymmsPro Skier/ ESPN/ Powder MagazineWiley Miller4FRNT Team rider/ Recent College GradWe had 35 people submit their Shreddership applications to us, which included both a written and video portion, to be eligible to get a one-year 4FRNT sponsorship. During that time, 3 of the 35 pulled themselves out of the competition because they had signed with other ski companies. That's the level of skiing that we were seeing in almost every video. I think that's not only an indication of how much skiing has progressed in the last few years, but it also validates why we decided to do this contest. There are TONS of kids out there who go to school, but still ski at the highest level. The 32 remaining entries were judged by the 4FRNT staff to narrow it down to our 4 finalists. The written portion of the application was judged separately from the video section, and each section was weighted as 50% of the overall score. The four finalists were put into a bracket format based on their score and were sent to our panel of celebrity judges. All four finalists will also receive a year of Powder magazine. So, without further ado, here are our four finalists, and their video submissions.Randy Ewing, University of California, San DiegoChris Farro, University of Southern CaliforniaCalvin Hawley, University of Utah4FRNT Shreddership from calvin hawley on Vimeo.Nik Aksamit, University of UtahShreddersnap from Pearled Barley on Vimeo.
