Super bipolar season this year but we still got some of the most pow I've ever skied on the east. Part 1 of our 3 part web series Room For Improvement. After the new year Tahoe faced down one of the most impressive Januarys on record with numerous atmospheric rivers dumping millions of gallons of rain and almost 300 inches of snow on the peaks around Squaw Valley and Tahoe City. In between storms the Janky crew enjoyed some of the best conditions the area has seen in 6 years, capitalizing on amazing storm skiing and a few cold sunny days. Part 1 of 4: Goldpan, Turnagain Pass, Alaska Every year team rider Josh Randich invites us up but every spring we get wadded up and can’t break free. This year we decided to pull the trigger early, at a time when arguably the Wasatch and Tetons are at a historical height, not to mention whats happening in Japan, to get a different perspective on AK. Josh has been teasing us with glistening maritime south facing features for years and its time we get up close and amplify the high times found in the Chugach mid season. Our shred crew consisted of Josh and Wiley Miller. Austin Ramaley, Carson Meyer and myself were there to capture the action. We arrived February 1st and we spent 4 of the next 6 consecutive days climbing south facing spine walls right off the road. Only in AK and for only 1 week, we were living the dream! Quick cut of some shots from the 2016/17 season. Had way to much fun last season skiing with awesome people in rad places. The mountains are always humbling and provide the most unique experiences. Moving from park skiing in the east to the mountains of Montana has provided a super fun process of progression that just keeps getting better! After returning from the attempted FWT event in Hakuba, Japan (which unfortunately didn't run due to weather and snow conditions) Yann Rausis and me headed back to Revelstoke to hit some pow, pillows and big drops with short trannys, before cruising over to Kicking Horse for FWT stop two (plus the restaged Hakuba event) We managed to time our arrival perfectly with the first big storm in a while, and had a hell of a time! All the GoPro shots are from my head. Ian got the news from the doctor that his knee wasn't blown and proceeded to get after it in MT, BC and UT. Nothing is better than being back on skis after thinking you were done for the season. This Act is simply about how much fun skiing is and how grateful we are to be able to do what we do. Cheers.
