Meadow Lodge - Part 2: Thayne Rich

by 4FRNT
Feb 2018 - 1.2K views

The only worthy roof for the talents of Eric Hjorleifson and Thayne Rich is in a backcountry touring hut, where life remains primitive and the skiing, well, radical. This is a complete 4FRNT adventure with great disparity between top talents, each driven to create content from alternating perspectives. What happens when you put the GAH poster boy (Hoji) in a hut with a rookie like Thayne? Does the puppy breathe life into the old dog? Does he fall in line, one kick turn at a time? The 2-part Meadow Lodge documents a 3-day adventure with Eric and Thayne in The Esplanades, an eastern sub range of The Columbia’s where the terrain flows east to the Columbia Rivers’ Kinbasket Lake. Enjoy the crafts of these two backcountry skiers as they literally ski from the door of Meadow Lodge down fluted spines, endless pillows and perfectly gladed tree runs. 4FRNT Turnagain Pass

by 4FRNT
Dec 2017 - 1K views

This is the culmination of a multi-day filming session on The Turnagain Pass with skiers Joshua Randich and Wiley Miller. For a week in early February, we bet against all odds to score south facing spines, an aspect most consider off limits come spring. Few crews have ventured to AK to see what the locals are all about until now, and with a bit of luck and determination, our crew bagged what are some of the longest, most exposed, yet easy to access lines one can find just a few steps off the road. "There are two types of Alaska ski trips you read about in ski magazines. There is the heli trip, where skiers hunker in a fishing village or backcountry lodge for weeks on end, “drinking it blue” — waiting for weather windows in which they can safely fly to nearby summits and flash down formidable skiing lines in 15 seconds. And there is the hardcore backcountry camping trip, where adventurers rough it on a remote glacier, digging out tents when it snows and bagging peaks and checking off descents when it’s clear. Both sorts of outings, almost always, come to fruition in the springtime. This is a different Alaska skiing story, one that takes place in the shadows cast by the North’s long nights, where locals drive old pick-ups to the trailhead, skin and climb for hours to ski film-worthy lines, and return in the dark, speaking hardly a word of what they just accomplished." - Derek Taylor, Freeskier Magazine Principal Cinematography : Austin Ramaley Additional Footage : Josh Randich, Wiley Miller, Matt Sterbenz, David Knutson Editing : Jake Strassman

Ian Hamilton POV - Hella Big Air

by 4FRNT
Apr 2018 - 760 views

The Hella Big Air Competition at Mt. Bachelor has become a "must watch" event with some of the industry's top competitors battling it out for over $15,000 in prize money. This year our own Ian Hamilton showed up and threw down. We'll let him tell you the full story... "Last season I more or less retired from serious competitions. When my buddy, Dean Bercovitch, suggested we drive 11 hours to Mt. Bachelor, directly from a backcountry trip in Montana I was a little hesitant. But, the $15,000 in prize money convinced me, and we drove west on Friday to compete on Saturday. I hadn't been hitting many big park jumps, so I had low expectations as there was a strong field of talented skiers; Jonah Williams, Noah Morrison, Nicky Keefer, Jaime Melton, and others. I felt confident on my skis and managed to qualify first into finals with my favorite trick, the Double Misty 1080. The Final was best 2 jumps out of three and I managed to put down my Dub Misty 10 double safety and Switch Misty 10 Truckdriver on my first two jumps. Since I qualified first I was the last man to drop. With nothing to lose I decided to send it and go for a Dub Misty 1260. I managed to stomp it and end up 2nd on the podium with two close friends. Needless to say I'll probably be entering more big air competitions." - Ian Hamilton Ian competed on his favorite ski The Vandal! https://4frnt.com/collections/skis/products/vandal

4FRNT announces a new logo. We wanted a refresh in branding that is both clean and iconic. The new ?4? was designed to reminisce classic ski branding but also to be modern and timeless, an evolution of the brand while keeping us tied to our roots. 15 % Lighter Touring Skis Eric Hjorleifson and Kye Petersens' signature shapes got 15% lighter. This was achieved by adjusting the core materials in our HOJI and across all KYE skis to a premium Poplar & Paulownia core while our Ravens and Renegades are now built with a our Whiteroom Neo Core. The Raven Reshaped and New Size This new freeride touring specialized shape is a fine-tuned masterpiece of it?s original. Broadened the waist slightly by 2 mms Lengthened the turning radius to 29m Altered the camber profile to an extremely gradual 30m reverse camber This allows fluid turns in the soft snow, edge hold when it?s firm, and superior maneuverability all around. More yet, a 190 cm length added for the taller guys. The Vandal A buttery and yet playful park ski that is still incredibly stable. The early rise tip & tail help you get up on your tips easier to butter, well, everything. The Originator This is our throwback to the roots of the Freeskiing movement, mogul skiing. As a brand with its birthplace in the heart of the freeskiing movement we simply couldn?t consider our line complete without satisfying our inner Hotdog. OUTTA BOUNDZ - Ep. 3

by 4FRNT
Feb 2013 - 347 views

Although the dart landed in a resort, we still managed to get out of the ski area boundaries and into the backcountry. Due to foggy skies and weak snowpack, we were unable to access the pin-pointed destination. We played it safe and skied the trees. The Canyons Resort received roughly 8 inches overnight and made for a surprisingly fun day. enjoy
