We've said it before, and we'll say it again- it's NOT getting any easier to chose our Finalists, and the line between these entries and our Semi-Finalists is a thin one, to say the least. However, after weeks of reviewing them all, watching them dozens of times over and over, and polling a panel of our athletes, crew, and people throughout the ski industry whose opinions we respect the most, these 9 entrants rose to the top, based on their style, creativity, skill, and the long term potential that we feel they have. If there's anything that we can say for certain after spending the past three weeks reviewing this year's Superunknown entries, its that the talent pool has never been deeper, and there's more variation in style, influence, and inspiration than ever before. Superunknown XII drew in nearly 100 entries from around the globe- some were all street, others all park. some all pow and big mountain, and others a mix of everything. Figuring out how to compare and judge one against the next was a huge challenge, and while we can?t say that we have the perfect formula, after spending countless hours consulting with athletes, media, and the Level 1 staff and rewetting most of these entries more times than we can count we have a list of 17 Semi-Finalists, and 9 Finalists that we stand behind. We'll be dropping Semi-Finalists all week long, starting with four today. On Friday afternoon we'll kick off the fan poll for you all to choose the 10th spot in Finals, so watch closely, spread the word, and help us figure out who should join the other Finalists in April for a shot at taking home the title! The 14th Annual SuperUnknown contest went off last week at Sierra at Tahoe, bringing together 10 Finalists from around the word, including Chase Mohrman, Ben Zins, Vincent Prevost, Miika Virkki, Siver Voll, Oliver Karlberg, Aleksi Patja, Rory Walsh, Zach Masi, and Sampo Vallotton. In the third of three action-packed edits the sessions continue in the Cali sun, shots are stacked, and decisions are made as a winner is voted! Brought to you by Sierra at Tahoe and Newschoolers.com About SuperUnknown: The original video talent search contest and still the biggest and best! Started back in 2004 as a way to give talented skiers a chance to gain exposure, sponsorship, and a shot at filming with Level 1, SuperUnknownâ„¢ set out to provide an alternate route to exposure outside of the traditional competition scene. Over a decade later the players have changed but the game is still the same- each year Level 1 receives nearly one hundred entries from around the globe from the most skilled and talented amateurs hoping to take the coveted title.
There?s only so much action that you can pack into a 55-minute film, and so we?ll be dropping bonus clips that didn?t make the cut on a daily basis until we?re well into Winter ?15. Want more? less is now available for digital download and rental through iTunes and Vimeo, with more platforms on the way!

Logan Imlach and Level 1 headed to Finland last winter to film this segment with the Real Skifi Crew! Level 1's 14th annual feature length movie, "Partly Cloudy" is now available on iTunes, Vimeo, DVD, and BluRay.
LSM gaps off a down to a flat down rail with a tail press out. Style for days.
Level 1's 18th annual feature film HABIT is available now in your favorite digital or hard copy format: level1productions.com/collections/movies/products/habit It’s never quite as easy as it looks in the movies. Even the best professional skiers regularly put their bodies through trials and tribulations in search of that elusive moment when it all comes together- the perfect light with the perfect snow, fingers finding the grab, edges locking onto a rail or ledge, speed perfectly dialed, and balanced feet finding their way to the ground as they prepare for landing. For every magical shot in your favorite film, edit, or photo, dozens or more hit the cutting room floor. In reality its a waiting game of hours, days, or weeks for light. The snow is harder than it looks. Grabs are often missed. Edges fail. Speed is off- too fast, too slow. That perfect balance point eludes even the most talented as they plummet to the ground below. Didn’t get the shot? No matter- pick up your gear and hike back up for another try. Or a few more. As many as it takes to get the shot or until you can break the habit.

The Whistler segment from Level 1's 16th annual feature, Small World. Want more? Small World is now available in your favorite format: iTunes: bit.ly/smallworldmovie Vimeo: vimeo.com/ondemand/smallworldmovie DVD/BluRay: level1productions.com/product_detail.cfm?PID=156&CatID=1 Directed by Josh Berman Cinematography by Josh Berman, Jonny Durst, and Zach Moxley Edited by Josh Berman Sound Design/Score by Stephan Chaikovsky and Schui Baumann Director Josh Berman recounts the back story of this shoot: This one has been in the making for a few years. When we last shot in Whistler back in 2013 for Partly Cloudy, we approached them with the idea of a giant step-up to step-down and the snow just didn?t cooperate. Snow levels again worked against us in 2014 and we scrapped plans altogether, but this year?despite the challenging winter that the Pacific Northwest experienced?the stars finally aligned and Chris McLeod [film and communications supervisor] and Charles Beckinsale [head park builder] worked to find a location that had the terrain and the snow to accommodate our feature. Charles is a wizard with the cat and ultimately made some tweaks to our design to fit his vision, and the end result was one of the most impressive snow sculptures I?ve ever seen. The lines were so smooth and the aesthetic so unique that we opted to not sheer the wall of the step-over. I know Charles really wanted to cut it, and the feature would have looked 10-times gnarlier, but it was so perfect that we didn?t want to change anything. And we figured we?d save Whistler Blackcomb some money on the already stretched cat budget! About Small World: Go out into the world, they say? see it for yourself! But in an age where any destination is in the palm of your hand- just a click away, what is left to truly explore? Level 1 examines the universal dialect of moving down snow on two feet through a lens of fresh perspective- documenting the outer niches of a sport pushed under the rug by the modern day ski zeitgeist. From the secret valleys of Switzerland, the ancient cities of Estonia, to the rowdy rope-tows of Minnesota- follow us around the globe as we capture skiing in its purest form. It?s a Small World, after all. Small World Awards: "FILM OF THE YEAR" - IF3 Film Festival, Montreal
