Monster Energy: Enemy Lines 2014

by 00000000
Apr 2014 - 563 views

After unseasonably warm weather in 2013 forced the race to start from a cat track below the headwall, the forecast in Fernie, BC cooperated just enough this year to allow for the main event to drop off the top. The 2014 format included 5, 4-man heats where the top 2 from each heat advanced to the final. This was followed by a 10-man last chance qualifier (LCQ) which saw Ben Rex Ogilvie grabbing the last spot. Last Years' winner, Stan Rey had a bye to the main event. At a reception at the Monster Athlete house on Friday, qualifiers were randomly drawn from a hat and were able to choose their preferred line. On Saturday's main event, 12 skiers dropped in off the 2,120 foot Lizard Bowl headwall, where Stan Rey edged out Logan Pehota by milliseconds to capture his second straight title.

Dub Tales Ep. 7 Retallack with Orage

by 00000000
Feb 2014 - 494 views

Late March 2013, I had the great opportunity to visit the famed Retallack Lodge with other members of the Orage family. Banks Gilberti, Charley Ager, Tatum Monod, and I shot with Felix Rioux and Jake Strassman as Mike Nick orchestrated everything. Retallack is over the top- a delicious hearty breakfast and packed lunches allows for a full day of lapping deep, pillow filled forests before a daily Chinese Downhill brings everyone back to the lodge for wings, beer, and games of neglin. The employees and the crew- especially Sir John A. Macdonald, Jonny5, and Karl the Gnarl- kept us safe and stoked, and I can't wait to get back up there.

The cultural phenomenon was best captured when Volcom released "Alive We Ride" in 1993: a film documenting the raw excitement and spontaneous creativity inherent to the lifestyle. Twenty-one years later, with the release of "True To This", Volcom again captures the energy and artistry of board-riding in its purest forms. Shot all around the world and showcasing iconic athletes, "True To This" is a tribute to the movement that inspired a generation and the people and places that embody that spirit today.
