Alyeska opened their lifts on Wednesday November 24th giving us lots to be thankful for this holiday weekend. The VCT's were treating me well the day after Thanksgiving, finding plenty of leftovers…:) Photo by Simon Evans
11/20/10- All stars aligned for one of those special days in the backcountry at Turnagain Pass, AK- very stable conditions, steep lines, killer snow, multiple runs, no wind, sunny skies, good people, and mild temps that remained below freezing... and it's all before Thanksgiving!
Some times the rail says to you that you are not good enough and that is when it gives you a beating. The road to the reward of stomping can be long. But who can complain when we as long as we are skiing? I can and you can as long as it puts you on the sideline to recover more than one day, you were finaly skiing and now you cant wait to get out there again. The good waves come in sets dont they?Erikcheck out freeskiers photoannual. a bombdrop by a spiral staircase
Nov 17th. Walked up Flagstaff Ridge for a peak into Days fork.... I've never hiked so much in the last week as I ever have in my life to ski. To be honest it makes the knee feel great and usually I'm getting ski freshies. Maybe this touring business has some sanity to it? nah who wants to earn turns anyway, f it! High milk over the Pfeifferhorn Peering into a line I want to ski... http://yleski.com/
Just wanted to post this info: The 2011 EHP have new plastic inserts at the end of the tail. This new design eliminates the steel edge at the end of the tail and increases durability, it also allows for notching a groove for ski touring skin tail clips. The plastic tail insert has slightly shortened the total length of each ski by 1 cm. These are the new boot center mounting positions to accommodate for tail inserts and 1 cm shorter overall length: 178 ski center 89 cm, - 6 cm mounting position = 83 cm from tail 185 ski center 92.5 cm, - 6 cm mounting position = 86.5 from tail 192 ski center 96 cm, - 6 cm mounting position = 90 cm from tail It is always a good idea to double check the factory marked mounting positions before mounting you new skis. Enjoy Shredding on you new EHP's!!! Cheers, Eric Hjorleifson
Yesterday at Turnagain Pass- kept it mellow due to sensitive snowpack, low-vis, and stormy conditions- little warm-up laps... good day though- in the mountains and on skis, 4FRNT skis. :) http://vimeo.com/16757538
Every pair of Renegades coming out of the White Room this years is going to come along with a certificate of birth, and a set of care instructions. While the all-wood sidewalls are extremely durable, and offer the best performance, they are slightly different to care for than ABS sidewalls. After so much effort and time put into these, I think Hoji and Cody are getting attached, so when you get your pair, remember to read the instructions, and frame the birth certificate, and when your little Rens get older, they know where they came from.
Yo dawgs. Check this link for some leftover pictures from the Fieldproductions shoot in Norther-Norwaye with racing big-shoot Aksel Lund Svindal. One of the best trips i have ever been on. http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=572195&id=838965612 Talk to u all soon!
This Miller Time was requested by Mike Rogge at Powder Magazine to help promote and vote for the people's choice awards.... enjoy! [video:http://vimeo.com/16452837 500x500]
It is the distinct pleasure of 4FRNT, and myself, to announce the winner of the Shreddership Award: Calvin Hawley, from the University of Utah. By now we've seen all of the edits, but it was really Calvin's written entry that made him stand out. Here's and excerpt: "Last year during finals week a crazy storm brought in the month of May with 7 feet of snow. This precipitated my only C so far in college, but it was worth it. Watch Ian Provo's edit from May 2 (http://www.vimeo.com/11480556) and you won't blame me for not studying." He's using his engineering degree and his electives to ultimately become a ski builder. He's already built half a dozen pairs on his own. We know, someone after our hearts! Once again, we cannot say thank you enough to everyone who participated by sending in their applications, and another shout out to our judging panel: Greg Wright, John Symms, Derek Taylor, Doug Bishop and Wiley Miller. They had possibly the hardest job, narrowing down our top 4. Here's Calvin's edit again. It's definitely worth another watch. [video:http://vimeo.com/15004130 400x225]
Wopa! Just gonna share a short film from todays rail session with fellow 4frnt skier Erik Næss. Just so stoked to be out skiing again. Being a free skier, its always super cool to be jibbing with the Oppdal jib crew at the start of the season. Preseason-rail [HQ]
Hey Finally the season has started in Oppdal. Just finished with the first raile session of the year. And as the great blogger i am i decided to post some pictures asap. Filmpart-award! This weekend I was fortunate enough to win Fri Flyts magazine´s award for best filmpart this year. Great success! Fri Flyt started their annual film tour thrugh Norway this weekend, showing Field Productions movie Side By Side and MSP´s The Way I See It. But before the movies started, Fri Flyt announced this years winners of the Fri Flyt awards. I managed to get several shots from different locatons and in different segments in Field ´s movie, and the result turned out good enough to grant met he prize for best skimovie-segment. I shared the award with my buddy, railmaster Even Sigstad, who definately also deserves a prize for his amazing skiing. The shots in the movie are mainly from Alaska, and from an epic trip with olympic gold winner Aksel Lund Svindal to northern Norway. Even though I feel pretty satisfied with last years skiing, I was really surprised that I won the award. I hope everyone else enjoys watching the skiing in Field´s movie as well! After watching the movies (Big props to Hoji for really sick skiing in The Way I See It!) the party kicked in, and in real norwegian tradition, everyone went pretty crazy, but none worse than the swedes… Now the skiing season is getting closer and closer, the peaks around Oppdal are capped with snow, and I cant wait to get my skis (and game) on! Check out Fri Flyt´s article here (in norwegian): http://www.friflyt.no/index.php?pagenr=12&articlenr=59667 Bildetekst: Me (left) and Even with our filmpart-awards. Woho!

When Matt and I were sitting around this winter, talking about doing the Shreddership, and what exactly it would entail, I don't think either of us knew how much exposure, and how much positive feedback we'd receive from it. The Shreddership was featured in major ski media, passed around Facebook and Twitter, and even inspired a spin-off competition for those who weren't so academically inclined. We knew we wanted a panel of prominent ski-industry representatives to be involved in the judging, so we reached out to a few people to see if they'd be interested in helping us out. Every single one of them got back to us immediately, and were more than excited to be involved. Here are our five judges that will decide the Shreddership:Greg WrightFreeskier MagazineDerek TaylorPowder MagazineDoug BishopNewschoolersJohn SymmsPro Skier/ ESPN/ Powder MagazineWiley Miller4FRNT Team rider/ Recent College GradWe had 35 people submit their Shreddership applications to us, which included both a written and video portion, to be eligible to get a one-year 4FRNT sponsorship. During that time, 3 of the 35 pulled themselves out of the competition because they had signed with other ski companies. That's the level of skiing that we were seeing in almost every video. I think that's not only an indication of how much skiing has progressed in the last few years, but it also validates why we decided to do this contest. There are TONS of kids out there who go to school, but still ski at the highest level. The 32 remaining entries were judged by the 4FRNT staff to narrow it down to our 4 finalists. The written portion of the application was judged separately from the video section, and each section was weighted as 50% of the overall score. The four finalists were put into a bracket format based on their score and were sent to our panel of celebrity judges. All four finalists will also receive a year of Powder magazine. So, without further ado, here are our four finalists, and their video submissions.Randy Ewing, University of California, San DiegoChris Farro, University of Southern CaliforniaCalvin Hawley, University of Utah4FRNT Shreddership from calvin hawley on Vimeo.Nik Aksamit, University of UtahShreddersnap from Pearled Barley on Vimeo.

It's been a few weeks since the last time the press heated up at 7am and turned out a cool ten pairs, but that doesn't mean nothing's going on the White Room. As of last post two hunded and sixty beautiful pairs of renegades were dropped off for final finishing at Revolution Manufacturing in Orem, Utah. I guess the best way to describe it would be to relate the feeling to dropping your kid off for the first day of school; you know it is what needs to happen, but you still feel somehow uneasy. These are my babys, Eric and I fought through pain, wild hangovers, extreme heat, borderline insanity, fiberglass clothing, and general exhaustion to get these things just so, it doesn't matter who it is, they're still hard to let go of... But that is the state of things, and at the moment I can't afford a $300K machine to do all of the finishing myself, so we do what must be done. The skis are in what I have been assured are careful hands, receiving that last touch of finality before being wrapped, carefully boxed, and sent into 260 eagerly waiting hands. As soon as I see them again, I'll put up some photos of finished Renegades. -Cody
