Backcountry Launches Departmentofgoods.com

Department Of Goods Access Codes: JN6AR-32K5-A3LZW | 16SY6U-32K7-QNH02 | 1NG2C3-32K9-26STB | 2EFJ1J-32KB-EHFT8 | 2AQQZW-32KD-GXPUW And then backcountry did it. They decided to develop another first in the outdoor gear industry with the launch of an exclusive shopping experience now known as the "department of goods". With an ad that says, Full Price is Dead! Request a Membership Now, i of course have a couple of questions. What is going to drive customers to this new storefront and will these new potential customers abandon other discount retailers to join the club? I wonder if backcountry will be able to get past MAP pricing even if it is just for this year by only letting invited guests in? These questions have yet to be answered but I can tell you one thing... They sure know what they are doing when it comes to design and implementation. Up with hope, down with backcountryoutlet.com. Russ Henshaw Takes the Barcelona Snow Show

Tom Wallisch. photo: Esteve Munmany Russ Henshaw took number one at the first annual Barcelona Snow Show this weekend in Spain. It was a show down of double corks but that is what gets you paid these days. The video montage says it all. The setup looked awesome and with a 115 foot tall drop in there was no lack of speed. The only issue seemed to be the landing which didn't hold up after a couple crashes. The event rolled on with Russ, Elias, and Tom killing it in the finals. Results: 1. Russ Henshaw | 2. Elias Ambuhl | 3. Tom Wallisch | 4. TJ Schiller | 5. Andreas HÃ¥tveit | 6. Jon Olsson 7. Paddy Graham | 8. Patrick Hollaus | 9. Benedikt Mayr | 10. Nov 10th 2009 - 0 comments

Sounds like Jon has figured out how to choose the best riders in Europe to represent at the Jon Olsson Super Sessions for 2010. Who will be in the top spots? Will they be indeed the best? I am stoked to see how the rookies do. I think this will make the event better than ever. Read the entire press release. So I think its about time to release some info about JOSS 2010. I thought that I would start by announcing how Team Europe will be put together. This is not an easy task, no matter how I do it there will be discussions whether it was the right guys that got in. So I decided to go with a simple and fair formula, I want the best skiers to represent Team Europe at JOSS and I feel that this is the right way. READ MORE ABOUT 2010 JOSS

The biggest names in free skiing once again converged onto London town for the 2009 Freeze. This years jump was awesomely big and then it rained. The competition almost did not happen when half of the landing washed away. Simon Dumont cut his losses and did not compete. The skiers that kept their boots on were given the chance to hit the kicker after about two hours of work. Props to the staff that were able to get the new snow to stick to the wet landing. Overall the competition was a success. Props to Russ, Andreas and Bobby. 1. Russ Henshaw, 2. Bobby Brown, 3. Andreas HÃ¥tveit, 4. Benedict Mayr, 5. Jacob Wester, 6. Corey Vanular, 7. Roy Kittler, 8. Ketchum, ID, October 29th, 2009 — After months of speculation, SCOTT USA would like to put the rumors to rest and announce that Tom Wallisch, the world’s #1 slopestyle skier and creator of the illest edits, is officially the newest member of the SCOTT International Ski Team. Wallisch is the first North American to be sponsored on SCOTT’s award winning skis. Wallisch will also represent SCOTT for goggles and ski poles. “At just 22 years old, Tom has proven that he is a force in slopestyle and that he can throw down dominating movie segments,” comments Gabe Glosband, marketing director for SCOTT’s wintersport division. Wallisch’s resume is already stacked, he has appeared in numerous Level 1 Productions movies and has solid slopestyle competition results including victories at Dew Tour Northstar and the Dumont Cup. Tom was recognized as the #1 Ranked Slopestyle skier for 2008-09 season by the Association of Freeskiing Professionals. “Tom is the skier we wanted to be SCOTT’s first North American ski athlete. I can’t wait to watch him rip our skis onto the podium,” adds Kevin Kruse, SCOTT’s wintersport team manager. “I couldn’t be more excited to be joining a company like SCOTT and to be riding their skis and rocking their eyewear and poles. Seth Morrison Signs With Backcountry.com

by SkiersRealm
Oct 12th 2009 - 0 comments

Photo: Mark Fisher Backcountry.com just signed rocker Seth Morrison onto their pro team. I’m not sure how other pro teams work with their athletes, but at Backcountry they need to get mixed up with the online community, provide unique pics and stories, and write product reviews if they want to get paid. Seth shouldn’t have a problem with that seeing as how he has a kickass blog. “I’m excited to be a part of the Backcountry Team. I’ve been going to Backcountry.com for years to check out reviews and see the newest latest all in one place,” said Seth. “Stoked to see all of my pro model gear on the site, it lets me know that we’re creating needed products for today’s skier.” I bet he writes lengthy product reviews of his pro model gear and one word reviews of every other ski: “meh.” Backcountry.com is stoked to have this iconic, badass skier as part of their team. I hope he survives the spanking machine Backcountry.com Athlete hazing ritual. Via: Backcountry The Goat Blog

Redbull and Head Skis brought their newest hyphy athlete to Zurich last weekend. Jon Olsson sported himself a tall t. Maybe it was too warm for the Swede to sport a normal sized shirt, but we think he is trying to fit in with the youngsters. The good news is that we found some Head JO Pros On Sale at Backcountry.com. Perfect time to get a pair before they go up in price. Line Skis Launches Newer Looking Shopatron Cart

by SkiersRealm
Oct 1st 2009 - 0 comments

I have nothing against Line Skis. They make an awesome product and keep driving the way the industry looks at ski design. I do have issues with their short term sales strategy. From the information available online it looks like they give sales to smaller dealers that do not take the same financial risks as their established online retailers such as Backcountry.com. There is a reason shops like EVO Gear and Backcountry do so well. They have teams in place to make sure your online shopping experience is the best it could possibly be. Once a customer can buy a pair of skis on the manufacturers website and the shipping is free how can other online dealers compete? They can't compete on price since Line is selling at MAP instead of retail. Why do they even have a retail price if they don't believe in the perceived value of it? Line's new skis are awesome and should do well for the 2010 season. Give them a gander at Backcountry.com. READ MORE

Snow Day At Mt. Bachelor and Mt. Hood Meadows

Mt. Bachelor and Mt. Hood Meadows have both received snow this week. The weather man says that the temps are supposed to stay cold and more precipitation is on the way through the end of this week. With this global warming climate change comes new weather patterns. Maybe Oregon will become the early season ski epicenter for North America? Only time will tell but I am not going to complain if I am making turns on Thanksgiving Day 2009. Mt. Bachelor Season Pass Deals (Last Day Today - Sept. 30) Mt. Hood Meadows Season Pass Deals

The design is clean and because of the unfortunate crash filming for TGR last year, Tanner should have some time to keep us up to date on what he is up to. Check Out TannerHall.com

Warren Miller Is My Friend?

by SkiersRealm
Sep 25th 2009 - 0 comments

Photo: Chip Kalback The story goes like this. Level 1 productions showed their new film, Refresh, in Colorado and a week later at IF3. They surprised everyone in the crowd when low and behold a familiar voice was heard. The voice was that of Warren Miller himself. Turns out Warren Miller is not dead, but he sold the movie production company and all of his personal likeness in 1995. That was before most of these stinky grom rippers that showed up to the PoorBoyz movie premier in Portland last night, were even born. Maybe that was beyond the point. Focus! Getting to the point, the parent company of WM who also owns Ski and Skiing magazines has filed a trademark lawsuit against Level 1. So they basically think that the movie is really good. If it wasn't they wouldn't make such a stink. My suggestion is to watch them both. Support the athletes but DO NOT SIGN UP FOR THE FREE MAGAZINES and stick it to the man. READ THE ENTIRE STORY

Yep the seasons are changing and the cold fronts are starting to appear. This morning Grete Eliassen posted on twitter from Salt Lake City, "Brrr! It is cold outside". It might be cold in the SLC but it started snowing in Colorado. Now the race begins. Who will open their lifts first? Arapahoe Basin and Breckenridge have both posted snowy pics. With 90 degree temps hitting Oregon this week all we can do is pray for snow. CHECK OUT MORE PICTURES Via: @Greteeliassen, @breckenridgemtn, @Arapahoe_Basin
