Summer Projects Update From Oregon’s Mt. Bachelor

by SkiersRealm
Sep 16th 2009 - 0 comments

Mt. Bachelor has always been my favorite mountain to ski in the Northwest. The ability to easily find unique yet challenging in bounds terrain cannot be beat and the powder, oh yes the powder, is dry like what you might find in Utah or Wyoming. Within the last five or so years Mt. Bachelor has been plagued by complaints of poor service and a lack of lift operational consistency. I have personally sat on the Northwest Express lift not moving in high winds and cold temperatures checking my watch as the day's runs were getting more and more expensive. Mt. Bachelor has since tried to remedy these issues and become more of the destination resort that produced the accolades they received in the last decade. The 2008-2009 season brought change within the mind set of the resort staff. Their welcoming smiles made me forget any uncertainty I may have had about the problems of the past seasons. This years summer projects goes to show a commitment to the future of the mountain and the focus on hospitality. We applaud the approach that Powder Corp has taken to make Mt. Bachelor the best place to ski in North America. Here's to the new Mt. Bachelor. See you in dilly dally alley. (Bend, Ore – Sept 16, 2009) – With only week’s remaining until Mt. Bachelor’s pre-season deadline for the lowest rates on season passes (September 30), the ski area is wrapping up preparations for the 2009-2010 ski season that have included $1.25 million worth of improvement spending. A wide variety of projects both on the mountain and in guest service departments have been underway since the conclusion of the previous season. Below are details on a selection of those projects. New Zealand Open Ski Slopestyle Results

by SkiersRealm
Aug 20th 2009 - 0 comments

Bobby Brown nabs 1st, Tom Wallisch gets 2nd, and Henrik Harlaut rock out in third this weekend at the New Zealand Open. SkiersRealm is stoked that the comp season has gotten under way with such a young yet loaded podium. Tom Wallisch continues skiing at an unbelievable level. How he stays focused and in a competitive mindset is beyond me. Tom is on a roller coaster ride to the top, but Bobby, Henrik and PK will not be far behind if not right beside him. These four skiers are a new breed and will be hashing it out all season long. Next up will be the Freestyle.ch this September in Zurich. Read More...

On March 26, 2009, ski legend Shane McConkey died in a ski BASE jumping accident in the Italian Dolomites. In countless ways, McConkey defined skiing as a lifestyle and by pushing the boundaries of the sport. Shane was a member of the K2 Skis team and was a creative thinker who challenged conventional wisdom in ski design. His Pontoon rockered powder ski, introduced in 2004, was one of the most profound innovations in ski design in decades. His concept was soon after adopted by the snowboard market thus making the sports more fun for millions of enthusiasts. Via: K2skis.com

Sammy Carlson’s New Movie, Can’t Stop

Jul 16th 2009 - 0 comments

Watch the, Can't Stop Trailer Can't Stop, directed by Dom Janiszewski, is the outcome of a solid collaboration between Dom and Sammy, who has been involved in every stage from planning to graphic design. They began shooting just before the X-Games in Aspen and the surrounding areas. The next big stop was in Europe in Montgenèvre where they had excellent conditions. Then to finalize everything, Dom spent over a month in the US travelling all over the place with Sammy and company. This year, Ride the Planets also collaborated with filmers based in the US: Pete Alport, Justin Weigan and Brandon Husak. They filmed the more urban shoots around the US with various riders. The film also features freeskiers such as Matt Walker, Tanner Hall, Simon Dumont, Tommy Ellingson, Mike Hornbeck, Ben Moxham, Liam Downey and Nick Martini as well as ‘Sammy’s kids’ Willie Borm and Seamus Flanagan. Of course, infamous paragliding shots with Antoine Montant are topped off with impressive speedflying.

K2 Hood House Part Tres, Senor Todd Bracher Wakesurfs

by SkiersRealm
Jul 16th 2009 - 0 comments

Todd Bracher doesn't need a board to wake surf. In fact he prefers to ride his wave's "Hungarian style". The water in the Willamette River is not the cleanest and the amount of water that a rider inhales while trying to perform barrel roles "Hungarian style" is about one gallon an hour. Come to think of it, probably not a good choice of surf styles. Todd went home with the green apple two step. Not conducive to house keeping. We wish him the best and hope that the Sears catalog in the crapper will keep him occupied while his legs fall asleep and his stomach starts to eat the rest of his other organs. On a side note Gutt and Reggie tore up the water on a board. Stoked to see them out on the boat. Thanks to Active Water Sports for the use of a wonderful MB Tomcat and to WakeMakers for making the wake redicously huge. Read Todd's Full Post...

Tom Wallisch On Scott Skis ?

by SkiersRealm
Jul 13th 2009 - 0 comments

What would Tom Wallisch do? Posts have been flying around the web today (NewSchoolers.com) that T Wallisch is dumping ski sponsor Amplid for Scott Skis. There are some even crazier stories that Burton might be producing some new Hyphy sticks. Over Jakes dead body. Although this sounds more like a rumor than fact it is worth investigating. Right now Scott Skis website is down which only fuels the fire that Tim Russell might have another team mate very soon. SkiersRealm will keep watching to see if we can find any facts to substantiate the story.
