A lot has changed since we kicked off SuperUnknown back in 2003. Skiing has come a long way- style and technicality has changed, developed, and progressed so far beyond what we could have imagined and commonplace tricks of 2018 hadn’t even been thought of. The landscape of competition, the internet, and video parts is barely recognizable compared to what it once was- but the one constant is that there’s always a crop of talented amateurs around the globe poised for a breakout, and they’re able to use SuperUnknown to take that next step! We’re excited to announce this year’s crop of Finalists who will join us at Winter Park Resort at the end of April. After a week of shredding and shooting, they’ll cast their votes for the winner of the 15th annual SuperUnknown!

In what is undoubtedly the heaviest year Superunknown has seen yet, we're stoked to announce the 9 Finalists! Once again with over 100 entries pouring in from around the globe, selecting Finalists was no small task, and we've spent the past 6 weeks watching, re-watching, and watching them again and again to determine who we think stood out the most. We'll also be awarding one Wildcard Finalist spot to the winner of the fan poll, chosen by you from our 16 Semi-Finalists: apps.facebook.com/my-polls/superunknownxiwildcard Stay tuned- we'll be releasing two Finalists each day through Thursday, then releasing the 9th official Finalist and announcing the winner of the fan poll Wild Card spot on Friday, March 28th.

We partnered up with our friends at Sony to hook up each of the 10 Superunknown XII Finalists with Sony Action Cam kits when they arrived at Mount Snow. They spent the week documenting everything that went on, and we compiled their best shots right here: https://apps.facebook.com/my-polls/suxii_actioncam Vote for your favorite shot between Monday May 11th and Friday May 15th to determine the winner. We'll be randomly selecting the name of one lucky voter each day (US only) and hooking them up with a Sony Action Cam, so get your vote in!
SuperUnknown all started back in 2003 as a way for the best undiscovered talent to get a chance to get noticed and break through to a pro career. We've seen well over 1000 entries over the years with some of the biggest names in the sport making an appearance before anyone knew their names... Corey Vanular kicked off the first SuperUnknown contest with this winning vid (followed closely by Tim Durtschi as the runner up). We're counting down the final days to the submission deadline for this year's SuperUnknown with standout clips for all the winners over the years- stay tuned!
Each of the Finalists were selected on the merits of their qualifying round submissions, where they were asked to submit a 90-second reel showcasing their skills with any available equipment, locations, and resources. We reviewed over 100 submissions, and selecting the best of the best was no small task. Once all the entries were thoroughly reviewed and judged and our Finalists were selected, we shipped them Sony Action Cam kits and gave them a month to produce and shoot an edit- subject matter and content of their choosing. Finalists are being judged and awarded points in 7 categories: technical ability, composition, creativity, motion, use of lighting, overall impression, and crowd vote. For the next 5 days we will release two edits per day. Want to chose your favorites and make your vote count? Check out the contest page apps.facebook.com/my-polls/Filmerunknown2015 (Vote open from March 14 until March 20 at 11:59pm MST) and give your favorite a thumbs up. How are we selecting the winner? In our efforts to make things as fair and transparent as possible, our office staff and production crew will be scoring each category on a scale of 1-10. We?ll also be awarding 10 points for the fan favorite, 9 for the second place-voted edit, 8 points for the third, etc, and factoring these points in with the rest. We?ll then add up all the numbers to determine our winner! The FilmerUnknown winner will receive: ? An all-expense paid trip* to attend Superunknown XII where they?ll work and shoot along with the Level 1 crew. ? $1000 in selected Sony product.
